Sebastian
Sebastian, friend of Denny and Pattie
Denny sent Team West to his friend Sebastian, who is also a linguist living in Belem. Sebastian is modest about his superpowers, but says that he is blessed with good friends. He also feels it is easy to become friends on a superficial level, but takes more effort to form a real friendship. Team West further get to know about how he became friends with Denny and his views on social issues, before heading to Austin, United States, to meet his friend and the next host, Pattie.
What is your superpower?
I don't know if I have a superpower. I'm a polyglot, I speak a number of languages which is nice but otherwise I'm just a regular person, I guess.
What would you change in your country if you were able to?
Well right now, the government but that's only on the surface. I think everywhere we need to change of political culture and political organization. That's very pressing for social issues everywhere.
What are you proud of?
I've seen quite a bit of the world and I think I have a good way of categorizing that to think about it and to share it with people. I think what I'm most happy about - not really proud, it's not an achievement. But I think I'm blessed with friends but we will talk about friends anyway. But my friendships would be one of my strongest points.
What is your spirit vegetable?
My spirit vegetable. I don't know - eggplant I guess.
What do you expect from a friend?
To be there when I need them, to understand my faults, to not judge.
How important are friends to you?
I think they are the single most important thing in my life.
Is it easy to become friends in your country?
It's easy to become friends on a superficial level, yes very easy. You meet somebody in a bar and just start to chat and you feel you are friends. To be invited to somebody's home for instance, is a different story. That's not so easy. It depends on different regions of Brazil but here in Belem, it took me quite a while before I got local friends who would invite me.
Can women and men be friends?
Absolutely yes. I have many friends who are women and there never was any erotic component to it. Actually, most of them are my best friends.
