#FriendshipFriday: Meryem's story

There's no better feeling than celebrating true friendship, old or new! Which is why we have #FriendshipFriday. Every Friday, we will post a friendship story shared by one of you on the Yuujou platforms, so remember to share your friendship stories with us! Email us a short account on why you became friends with a person, or how this friend helped you through tough times, with pictures you may have together on hello@yuujou.world and get a chance to be featured on the Yuujou platforms.

Today, we wish to share Meryem's story. Meryem lives in Turkey, and she was visiting the Mevlana Museum in Konya when she met Keiko and Hiroshi san from Japan, and they had an instant connection. Here is what she says:

"I met a Japanese family, Keiko and Hiroshi san at Mevlana Museum in 2009. We talked with each other about our cultures for what felt like years. This way, I learned about Japanese culture and also learned a little Japanese. They don't have children, but they love me like their own child. They have put my photos in various places in their home back in Japan.

I have never visited them, but I really hope I get to meet them again, someday."

Meryam also talks about how traveling and volunteering has helped her make friends all over the world. She says, "I owe my current strength to travel. Sometimes I traveled alone, and sometimes with people I never knew. But we found a solution to all difficulties together. I have been involved with volunteering projects for many years. I've learned to be happy by making others happy through volunteering. And this way, I have friends all over the world."

What do you think of her story? Did you make new friends while traveling in your home country?

Wonderful story. It's so amazing when you make connections even without trying. I hope I get to experience that on my travels, too. :)

Awesome story Meryem! Great having a home away from home. Talking and integrating with people of the culture is by far my favorite way to learn about a place and favorite way to travel. Keep doing great things!
